Customize your own MAC Eye or Blush Palette!

MAC has given us a brand new online tool to help customize your own Eye or Blush Palette!  Click on the picture above to take you to their website.  I’ve already been playing around with it (for far too long) and I’m thinking of going with natural shadows for a smoky day look.  Some eyeshadows I would recommend for this type of look would be shroom, naked lunch, or soba.

Have fun!

New OPI Collection Information

Who else is excited about the new OPI Collections coming this year?  There’s the Pirates of the Caribbean Collection coming out this May.  AND, this collection has SILVER SHATTER!  Yes, I am this excited that I have to use caps locks.

Here’s a video with more information:

Also, coming up this year for the fall is Touring America.

Nail of the day

Today’s nail of the day was bought to you by:

– 1 coat of Sephora by OPI Hydrator as a base coat
– 2 coats of OPI Alpine Snow
– 2 coats of OPI Pear of Wisdom

Alpine Snow applied very streaky on me. I would have put on another coat to even it out but I was in a kind of a rush. =p (I wanted to get some stuff from the MAC Quite Cute collection. Another post on this will be soon up!)

Pearl of Wisdom wasn’t showing up as I had hoped so I had to put on 2 coats. Pearl of Wisdom usually isn’t a top coat but it’s so sheer on me that a base coat of white was the best way I can make it show up.

Please let me know what you think about the combo! Comment away!

TRESemme’s Fresh Start Collection – Bang for your Buck!

I have a problem when it comes to washing my hair. I have to wash my hair every day or else it will get super oily, slightly smelly, and lack in volume. (Gross!) I’ve been researching online on how to care for my hair so I don’t have to shampoo every day. I came across lots of great articles on different ways to get rid of the oil that seems to consistently envelope my hair. One article suggested that normal baby powder can do the trick. All you have to do is to shake the baby powder on to your hair, leave it on for a minute or two, then comb it out. In my case, the baby powder is highly visible with my black hair. I had to blow dry it out while combing. This method worked well but I found that I had to re-powder my hair after a 3 to 4 hours. So, my search continues!

I went to my local Shoppers Drug Mart and found the Tresemmé Fresh Start Collection! I bought both the Waterless Foam Shampoo for Dry/Curly to Normal Hair and the Dry Shampoo for Oily/Straight to Normal Hair. There’s also a Refreshing Mist in this collection but I decided to pass on this product.

Both are really easy to use. For the Waterless Foam Shampoo, all you have to do is pump the product into your hand and spread the product throughout your hair. Afterwards, use a towel and pat your hair to remove the excess product, dirt, or oil. For the Dry Shampoo, shake the can before you use it. I think this is to make sure that the product is well mixed before you spray it in your hair.  After shaking, hold the can about 8-12 inches away from your head and start spraying!  (Be careful to not get the product in your eyes!)  Make sure you leave the product in for 1-2 minutes before you brush out your hair.

• Availablity: Shoppers Drug Mart, London Drugs, and other drugstore locations

Price: 10/10

I bought both products for $4 (CAD) each!

Packaging: 7/10

Both products come in the standard Tresemmé packaging.  Very sleek looking but nothing to be too note-worthy for a drugstore brand.  The Waterless Foam Shampoo canister is plastic and therefore has a matte finish look.  The Dry Shampoo is in a metal container somewhat like a hairspray canister.

Ease of Use: 9/10

Both products are very easy to use.  The instructions are straight-forward to carry out.

Lasting Power: 8/10

The Waterless Foam Shampoo lasted me about 4 hours before I had to put more product in my hair.  I guess my hair is way too oily for this type of shampoo.  However, the Dry Shampoo lasted me a little longer at about 6 hours.

Quality: 9/10

The product does what it says it does!  Can’t beat that!  It leaves your hair smelling fresh with a hint of citrus.  Most importantly, my hair looks clean without washing it.

Grade: A

For the price point, I think everyone should try the Tresemmé Fresh Start Collection.  It’s easy to use, easy to find, and cheap!

So I Think I Can Blog… About Makeup!

That’s right folks! I do think I can blog about makeup. Why do you ask? What makes you more special than the millions of beauty and makeup blogs that are circulating the interwebs? Both very good questions!

First of, I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Joanne and I’m currently an undergrad student living in Vancouver, BC, Canada. I’m actually not studying to be a makeup artist or studying anything remotely close in the beauty or cosmetics field. I just happened to find a new passion and I wanted to share it with the world!

This blog is dedicated to those who are just starting to find out for themselves on how great makeup is! Again, I’m just starting to get more involved in the wonderful world of makeup and my goal is to document and report on how makeup newbies (like myself!) can enjoy all the different products that are out there.

Hope this answers some questions!

No Jokes Here! A Look at my Nail Polish Collection

It’s April Fools Day and the internet is buzzing with some really great online pranks. Since there are plenty of others spreading the April Fools cheer all around, I decided to write just about makeup! (Of course, I would. I wouldn’t be an addict if I didn’t.) Here’s a look at my nail polish collection. I’ve only started collecting since the last year so my collection is still small. Although, my bf and family would beg to differ.

The start of an addiction

It all started when Sephora came to my neck of the woods over a year ago. I entered the glass doors on opening day and I instantly fell in love!  Everything was super bright and shiny and new.  Everyone was super excited and in such a great mood that it was infectious.  You couldn’t help but smile while you shop.  After about an hour (any longer and my credit card would have given out on me), I came out with a great haul!  First, I got the Sephora Two Tone Portfolio Brush Set ($57 CAD).  This brush set is amazing for someone (like me!) who’s starting out a makeup collection.  You get a blush brush, powder/complexion blush, eyeshadow blending brush, eyeshadow detail brush, concealer brush, and a retractable lip brush all in one handy travel portfolio!  If you do the math, that’s about $11 per brush.  Compare it to their normal prices individually, the brush set is a great steal.

The brush set packaging.

Open Sesame!

Top to Bottom: Powder brush & blush brush

Top to Bottom: Retractable lip brush, concealer brush, angled eyeshadow brush, & eyeshadow brush

I also picked up the Sephora Daily Brush Cleaner ($8 CAD) so I can keep my brushes nice and bacteria-free.  At $8 you can’t go wrong in protecting your brushes from nasty germs that can start growing on your brushes.  There’s also a Sephora Purifying Brush Shampoo that you can buy to wash your brushes but that’s a whole another post!  I rounded out my haul with some items that my mom wanted: the Sephora Nano Eyeliner in 05 – Chocolate ($7 CAD) and Sephora Eyebrow Pencil in Brown 2 ($13 CAD).  Yes, I went overboard with the Sephora brand items.  Don’t judge!
